2018 is officially here and it’s bringing some fantastic tech items with it. In my previous blog, I’d highlighted some of this year’s most popular and anticipated devices. Now, I’d like to focus in on one particular device that’s set to release in just a few months that is sure to set the tech world on fire.
For the last decade or so, Samsung has made its name known through a variety of tech devices, but its mainstay product is its series of Galaxy S phones. Aside from Apple’s iPhone lineup, the Galaxy S series of phones are some of the world’s most popular mobile devices, and with good reason. The Galaxy S phones traditionally boast some of the industry’s most leading tech, and every year, these phones go toe-to-toe with Apple’s flagship phones. This year is no exception.
Although it was highly expected, Samsung has officially announced their annual Unpacked Event in which they announce their latest lineup of Galaxy S phones. This year’s models will be the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
So what exactly can we expect from Samsung’s latest?
Similar Design
Last year’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ made huge waves in the mobile phone world with their outstanding design. With an almost bezel-less display and sleek corners, the S8/S8+ were very tough to beat. This year’s S9/S9+ will be sporting a very similar design, so don’t expect any radical differences.
What’s Under the Hood?
There’s good news and bad news for this year’s lineup. The S9+ (the larger of the two devices) features a whopping 8GB of RAM and a staggering 128GB of storage; unfortunately, the standard S9 features the same specs from last year’s model (4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage). For power users looking for a smaller device, you’re out of luck. You’ll need to opt for the larger device.
Pose For The Camera
While most of the S9 and S9+’s features will remain fairly similar to last year’s models, there is one area that will see a major upgrade: the camera. The S9/S9+ will feature motion-detected, super slow-motion ability as well as variable apertures on the 12MP rear-facing camera. The camera will be able to switch smoothly between f/2.4 and f/1.5 apertures.
I’m very excited to see if Samsung has anything else up its sleeve for these devices. We will find out soon enough when the phones are announced in February.
